How do I install Interbloc?

The Interbloc modular wall system is fast and efficient. A properly trained individual can install upwards of 25m2 of wall per hour. Inexperienced staff can install more than 15m2 of wall per hour.

Health And Safety

Before working with the blocks ensure as a minimum installation staff have read this article. Installation staff should also conduct a job-specific Job Safety Assessment, complete a Safe Work Method Statement (an example SWMS has been attached to this manual), and consult with other PCBU’s on-site to ensure all hazards are identified before commencing. Equipment should be checked for compliance and necessary certification before lifting blocks.

Before You Start: Review Designs

Envirobuild
For every Interbloc structure, a block layout plan is provided. This is available in an interactive 3D environment through Envirocon's Envirobuild software. These designs are colour coded to make it easier to identify where to place each block. A colour key is available at the end of this article.

On more complex structures, often detailed construction drawings are provided by the engineer. It is essential to review these plans prior to commencing installation. Even on a relatively simple structure, it is essential to start the block laying pattern correctly.

In reviewing the wall designs, consider:

• Health and safety implications of the design on the working environment
• Internal and external measurements, check against the working space available
• Operational practicalities regarding available machinery and workspace
• Reinforcing requirements
• Block sealing requirements
• Access issues

PRE START CHECKLIST

  • Clear access for trucks to deliver blocks, including turn around circles and block storage.
  • Clear access for forklifts/lifting equipment to manoeuvre.
  • The foundation is a level clean surface.
  • The block placement area can accomodate the block design, including allowing for 5mm creep in each block.
  • If using fixing kits, the airspace above the blocks can accomodate the length of bar.

 

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT


The strength of Interbloc is the incredible efficiency and ease of installation.

Aside from appropriate lifting equipment, a limited range of tools are required:

  • Lifting Klaw – attached to the lifting equipment.
  • Pinch Bar – the pinch bar is used to maneuverer the block once placed on the ground.
  • Crow Bar – works similar to the pinch bar, however, tends to be used for minor
    adjustments and to assist in ‘settling’ the block once placed on top of each other.
  • Hand Brush – or electric leaf blower; used to brush/blow away debris from the top of
    block when placing blocks.
  • String Line – use as a guide for placing the blocks in a straight line.

Placing The Blocks

How Do I Install Interbloc?
For best results the wall should be built on a level, concrete, foundation. Prior to block placement sweep the concrete surface to ensure the foundation is free of debris.







Lay a string line along the length of the pad as a guide.










Starting from a corner (if the wall has one) place the first block maintain a 10mm gap from the string line with all blocks.









Place your next block, and ensure the gap between the interlocking grooves is between 745mm and 747mm. The correct spacing allows the wall to be built at height without binding.
How to Install Interbloc
It is important to ensure the base layer of the blocks are level, flush, and correctly spaced.











Blocks can be repositioned post placement by using a pinch/crow bar to leverage the block around.
When placing blocks, ensure the interlocking crosses are lined up.












Before adding a layer of blocks, ensure the top of the previous layer is swept free of debris. Use a brush or blower to do this.








Place your next layer of blocks, ensuring a running bond pattern is maintained.







You may need to use shims to ensure each layer of blocks is level.
